Working around tubulars is where most injuries occur on the rig floor. Standard clamping operations involve waiting until the pipes are made-up on the drill floor and then aligning the clamp over the cables before fitting two straps and tightening two bolts.&nbsp;<br>\n<br>\nThe operation typically takes over 2 minutes and involves 2-3 people in the danger zone with the risk of injury and clamps dropping downhole. The additional logistics of transporting and handling cable clamp crates to the rig floor incurs costs and frequent delays to running operations.&nbsp;<br>\n<br>\nTo tackle these challenges, Vallourec has developed the world&rsquo;s first Pre-Installed Cable Protector, moving most of existing operations from the rig floor to the yard. The protector generates safety benefits and significant rig time savings. The protector is pre-installed in the pipe yard, easily captive in the pipe, and transported ready for make-up. In addition to fewer risks, there are logistics and efficiency gains in completion running operations.<br>\n<br>\nInstalling the rig is simple and quick as the cables are secured by only one operator in just two turns of one tool, with no special powered equipment required.
