ADIPEC 2023: A major focus on innovations and New Energies for the Oil & Gas market
From October 2 to 5, Vallourec was present at the international ADIPEC exhibition and conference, held annually in Abu Dhabi. This key event in the Middle East, recognized as the world’s most influential exhibition for the Oil & Gas market, welcomed this year more than 184,000 energy professionals, 2,200 exhibiting companies and 54 National and International Oil Companies.
Accelerate decarbonization
For the second year in a row, the main focus of the event was decarbonization and energy transition, with a clear motto: “Decarbonising. Faster. Together.”.
On its booth, Vallourec seized the opportunity to present all the solutions comprising Vallourec® New Energies, its portfolio dedicated to the energy transition. Interested visitors were able to discuss their hydrogen, carbon capture and storage (CCUS) and geothermal projects with our experts. ADIPEC was also an opportunity to present our latest innovation in hydrogen storage. To meet the growing need for localized storage solutions close to production sites and applications and representing a few tens of tons of hydrogen, Vallourec is developing its own storage architecture, which will enable us to offer customers a complete system. Based on our pipes and tight VAM® connections, this solution minimizes the storage surface footprint, facilitates on-site integration, and reduces hazard perimeters, while guaranteeing the best possible safety conditions. Following these exchanges, feedback from visitors was very positive, and led to promising discussions. All the people we met recognized Vallourec’s expertise in materials science, including metallurgy and corrosion, as well as for its premium VAM® connections, of which some have been tested and validated for specific applications such as geothermal and hydrogen.
Topics presented on our booth were backed by both strategic and technical presentations at the conferences. For example, Ulrika Wising, Senior Vice President Energy Transition, participated in the strategic panel on the future of hydrogen storage and transportation, alongside representatives from TES-H2 and AVEVA: a great opportunity to discuss the actions required to develop and structure the hydrogen economy. In the technical program, Florian Thébault, Principal Corrosion Engineer, presented the results of work carried out on sour service fracture toughness from lab-scale to full-scale.
Innovative digital solutions for the Oil & Gas market
Our booth was also an opportunity to showcase some of our innovations and digital solutions for Oil & Gas customers. We demonstrated TallyVision, a digital solution to improve pipe running operations thanks to the traceability of each pipe. It ensures that pipes and accessories are run according to the planned sequence and proposes the best updated sequence in case of need. It reduces non-productive rig time, eliminates human error, and offers rig crew valuable operational KPIs such as time versus depth. Thanks to the barcodes printed on the pipes and to an application specifically designed by Vallourec and available to our customers, we were able to give live demonstrations of how operations work in the field.
Other innovations also took center stage on the booth, including our latest VAM® SLIJ-3 semi-flush connection and the Submagnetico system.
VAM® SLIJ-3 is the latest generation of VAM® semi-flush premium connections, introducing higher torque and compression capacity for an overall superior performance in ultra-deep offshore environments. Its optimized design improves make-up and brings higher value in HP/HT operations. VAM® SLIJ-3’s robustness was tested with the most recent and rigorous test protocols thus guaranteeing reliability in critical operations.
On the other hand, Submagnetico is a magnetic technology that prevents scale formation and improves production rates unobtrusively. The Submagnetico system applies a magnetic force on the extracted fluid reducing the formation of scale on the production string, significantly increasing production rates and reducing external intervention.
All these innovations, as well as our vertical storage solution for hydrogen, were presented in a dynamic way, thanks to a hologram system that allowed a 3D view of their functionalities. Visitors particularly appreciated this educational and entertaining animation, which perfectly illustrated the features and benefits of these solutions.
Very positive feedback
ADIPEC 2023 was once again a great success and a unique opportunity to interact with customers, prospects and major industry players. Booth visitors praised Vallourec’s positioning as a company focused on innovation and new energies. Vallourec representatives had several promising discussions with customers and prospects on future projects, in particular in the energy transition field.
We are pleased to see that our solutions designed for new energies applications, and more specifically geothermal, CCUS and hydrogen, are raising very strong interest from our customers and prospects. ADIPEC was once again an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our ability to provide our customers with advanced solutions, combining traditional products and innovations, to support them in their energy transition and contribute to decarbonizing our economy.
