Open registration for the Vallourec Open Brazil 2021 innovation program
Startups from all the country will be able to participate in Vallourec Open Brazil (VOB) 2021 and the best proposals will be selected to develop projects and tools to solve real challenges faced by the company. Registration will be open from September 1st to 30th at the website www.vallourecopenbrasil.com.br.
According to Gabriel Cordeiro, Innovation Engineer at Vallourec, the goal of VOB is to strengthen the business environment in terms of technology through joint elaboration of projects that contributes to an ongoing improvement of processes adopted at the company. “We have a very strong innovation ecosystem in Brazil, and we want to use it to build partnerships of value and to solve real challenges”, states Cordeiro. He notes that Vallourec is benefited, through the access to custom solutions, as well as the participant startups, who find in VOB a showcase for the foreign market, since the ideas presented can be used both in Brazilian units and in other Vallourec divisions around the world.
The participants will be evaluated regarding the adequacy of the ideas to the Vallourec activities and to the proposed subject, the technical capacity to develop the project and the capacity to create solutions different from the conventional ones, in addition to clarity in the presentation of proposals.
Challenges
This year, the participants will be able to suggest alternatives to the solution of four improvement points identified by the Vallourec team. The first one is about the development of a software that identifies and generates automatically, through artificial intelligence, appropriate key words, by scanning internal company documents.
Another challenge is for those registered to think of ways to monitor and evaluate the behavior of Consteel – an equipment that feeds the electric arc furnace with scrap inside the Aciaria – during all stages of the operation, as well as monitoring the mechanical consequences in the drive and in the structures.
The third one consists of the creation of a platform for the automatic identification and consolidation of data and indicators for the regional, national, and international metallic market (iron ore, ferrous scrap and solid pig iron) to simulate scenarios and trends.
Finally, the participants must create an inventory management tool capable of identifying similar products in the databases, comparing their different characteristics and pointing out differences between them, to enable their reclassification whenever an opportunity is identified.
Stages of the program
Once registered, the participants will be evaluated regarding the business model and area of activity, in addition to the company´s legal, judicial, and fiscal compliance. The enabled startups will move on to a second phase, in which they will have to send a video presenting the company, the team, and the project to solve the proposed challenges. Up to 12 teams will be selected for the immersion phase, when they will have direct contact with Vallourec´s areas and employees to which they will have to propose ideas and tools. The goal is to support startups to build solutions aligned with the company´s real needs. The result of the selection will be announced on November 26th.
