It is August 2022, and we can already say that, throughout this year, Vallourec has had many achievements and challenges. Undoubtedly, important milestones have been reached, but our gaze has also been turned outside our walls. After all, we are committed to the well-being of society, consolidating actions to make a difference in the communities in which we operate.

And who comes to remind us of this is the Volunteer Day, celebrated on August 28th. Just to get an idea, in the last year, our initiatives benefited thousands of people, with emphasis on Employability Mentorships and the more than 1,500 food baskets donated.

Among the various actions developed there is also the Volunteers of Knowledge project, which in 2021 alone benefited 402 people and had a total of 206 volunteers. Today, the program is the main means used by Vallourec to reach those who most need support. From January to December, with small and large actions, the initiative creates a connection between employees and students from schools in the regions where the Company operates. The idea is to contribute to the improvement of the Basic Education Development Indexes (IDEB in Portuguese) of public schools, working with one of the subjects most feared by children and adolescents: mathematics.

In this journey, the program was also expanded to meet other needs of our target audience. With the arrival of the pandemic, for example, in which the virtual world gained strength, Vallourec implemented a new format for serving students, via online mentoring. For students aged between 11 and 15, the Social Startup “See, Do and Get” was created, which encourages teamwork, dialogue, cooperation, responsibility, listening, creativity, and argumentation among young people.

On the other hand, students aged 17 to 24 were prepared for the job market with topics on self-knowledge, self-esteem, communication, relational skills, access to and use of LinkedIn, future professions, curriculum development, and a life plan.

Volunteer work is executed in accordance with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals and with Vallourec’s values: respect for people; integrity and transparency; demand and professionalism; role, among others.
