Vallourec has reached an extraordinary milestone, marking nine years without accidents in Petrobras’ offshore and onshore operations. This achievement was recognized last month in a prestigious event attended by leaders of Petrobras’ partner companies, underlining its significance in the industry.

The recognition from Petrobras is a testament to Vallourec’s steadfast commitment to safety and operational excellence. It not only celebrates past successes but also serves as a foundation for future safety initiatives, ensuring a secure and risk-free work environment for years to come.

Commitment to Safety

Vallourec’s unwavering commitment to safety has been a key factor in achieving this milestone. Petrobras’ Offshore Wells Management – Well Services division extended their congratulations to the entire Vallourec Brazil team for their outstanding safety record. Remarkably, throughout this nine-year period, Vallourec has had zero Recordable accident of TRIR (Total Recordable Injury Rate), or PHGE (Potential High Gravity Event).

Proactive Safety Measures

This recognition is the result of Vallourec’s longstanding structured and proactive approach to safety. Vallourec actively monitors its performance through key indicators, including:

  • Job-specific risk assessments (JRA): Evaluating technician participation in safety measures.
  • Deviation cards: Encouraging daily reporting to enhance risk awareness.
  • SafeStart (unsafe acts): Implementing focused follow-ups to foster a safety-oriented work environment.
  • Field Safety Index (ISC): Using peer evaluations to reinforce safety standards.

Additionally, Vallourec holds bi-weekly technical team meetings where operational safety concerns are thoroughly discussed, ensuring that potential hazards are identified and mitigated. Monthly technician meetings provide employees with an open platform to voice safety issues, reinforce best practices, and recognize exceptional safety performance. Furthermore, Vallourec collaborates closely with Petrobras to continuously address and improve safety standards by discussing emerging risks and developing new safety initiatives.

Vallourec also utilizes the SIRH platform (Human Resources turned for Safety), offering ongoing training on critical safety topics such as human factors, hand safety, and interdependence. These initiatives collectively help reinforce Vallourec’s safety culture, ensuring that employees remain vigilant and well-equipped to handle potential hazards.

Recognition and Future Goals

Expressing gratitude for this achievement, Ronaldo Fonseca, Vallourec Tubular Solutions General Manager of Operations stated, “Receiving this recognition from such a valued partner as Petrobras is a true honor. It reaffirms Vallourec’s uncompromising commitment to safety and the rigorous measures we have in place. As our corporate safety policy states, “together we are safer”.

Looking ahead, Vallourec has set ambitious safety targets as part of its strategic roadmap, including achieving a Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR) of less than 0.2 by 2030. This goal aligns with the broader CAP 2030 Health & Safety Roadmap, which aims to reduce workplace accidents and eliminate life-changing events. To achieve this, Vallourec is continuously refining its safety protocols, incorporating cutting-edge risk assessment techniques, enhance the safety leadership of the line managers and fostering a safety culture.

By maintaining its proactive safety measures and strategic vision, Vallourec remains committed to not only sustaining its impressive safety record but also setting new benchmarks for excellence in occupational safety.
