Where the city appears
Nine decades ago, a building appeared in the center of the capital of Minas Gerais, bringing with it the marks of a pioneering spirit that can still be seen today. Cine Theatro Brasil, now known as Cine Theatro Brasil Vallourec, was inaugurated on July 14, 1932 as one of the tallest buildings in the city (people paid a ticket to go up to the terrace to see Serra do Curral), the largest cinema in the Brazil and the first construction in Belo Horizonte in the Art Deco style (inspired for buildings such as the Post Office and City Hall).
To mark the 90th anniversary of Cine Theatro Brasil Vallourec, the space prepared a whole day of free activities. The attractions start at 8 am, with the Banda da Guarda Municipal, at the main entrance of Cine Brasil, in Praça Sete, and continue until 9 pm, with
a performing arts performance at the Grand Theater. To remember the heyday of what was once the largest exhibition hall in the country, cinema sessions at the Teatro de Câmara with great classics: The Boy (Charles Chaplin), Scarface (Howard Hawks), M, The Vampire of Dusseldorf (Fritz Lang) and Devil’s Feast (Alfred Hitchcock). There will also be guided tours with the Educativo team for those who want to know a little more behind the scenes of the cultural center that moves the heart of the city.
“We invite the public to occupy the Cine and its surroundings, enjoying attractions that not only rescue part of our history but also reinforce the quality of our programming and the concern of this space in democratizing access to culture. Cine is a meeting point where the city presents itself, and this is where we want to bring people together“, invites Sandra Campos, manager of Cine Brasil.
